Maślanka

Maślanka, which is the name for buttermilk in Poland, is the liquid that remains after the cream is churned into butter. So, in spite of its name, buttermilk has no milk in its composition, nor it is mixed with milk. Also, even if it has a creamy and rich texture, buttermilk has low-fat content, so it is a great product to enjoy even when dieting. It has a slightly sour taste, but it also a bit sweet as well, and can be consumed as it is, added in smoothies and various recipes, including when backing, as it works great in activating the leavening agent in bread and pastry products.
